Sidekicks remain undefeated with 7-3 home win

The Dallas Sidekicks improved to 3-0 on the season with an action-packed 7-3 win against the Rio Grande Valley Flash on Friday night. This marks the team’s best start since 1994.

The Sidekicks’ win was cemented in the fourth period when Michael Uremovich scored his first goal of the season. The goal was scored on the power play, Uremovich ricocheting a touch from Ricardinho off of the post at 10:38. Renato Pereira was credited with the second assist. Rio Grande Valley’s Jose Malacara also scored in the fourth period, but his goal at 14:17 came too late for his team to rally back.

Scoring was rampant in the third period, the Sidekicks’ Jamie Lovegrove getting an early start 3:23 after the whistle. The midfielder directed a flick from Shaun David right past Rio Grande Valley goaltender Juan Gambon.  Robert Luevano put Dallas up 4-1 at 5:45 after scoring at a distance on a rebound from a shot by David. The Sidekicks’ onslaught continued with Ricardinho, who intercepted a pass in Rio Grande Valley’s territory and went 1-2 with Shamu to score at 6:51. Edgar Flores quieted the home crowd of 5,606 at 12:07, putting it past Sidekicks’ goaltender Sagu and cutting their lead to 5-2. Luevano, however, pumped the crowd right back up when he scored his second goal of the night at 14:33. Shamu assisted once again, allowing Luevano a breakaway that forced Gamboa to come out and challenge him.

Sidekicks midfielder Franck Mbemba was the first of the night to strike, a hard shot blasting to the bottom left corner of the net. The unassisted goal came at 5:30 in the second period. Shortly after, Lovegrove was sentenced to the box for committing a dangerous play penalty.  Playing shorthanded did not slow the team down. At 6:56, David sped past Rio Grande Valley’s defense and scored the first shorthanded goal for the Sidekicks since 2004. Rio Grande Valley’s Alejandro Morales opened up scoring for his team at 14:11 with a powerplay goal.

The Sidekicks will travel to Beaumont to face off against the Texas Strikers tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The team’s next home game is Saturday, December 15.
