About the Flash: The Rio Grande Valley Flash played in the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido (LMFR) as the Monterrey (Mexico) Flash until 2012, when they relocated the franchise to McAllen, Texas and joined the PASL. This will be the second of four meetings between the two clubs this season.
Record Setting Opening Night: The Sidekicks opened the season at home, defeating the Harrisburg Heat 6-2 in front of PASL record 5,909 fans at the Allen Events Center. Dallas also set team records for least goals allowed in a Season Opener (2), and least goals allowed at Halftime in a Season Opener (0).
Rio Grande Valley Impressive in Debut: The Rio Grande Valley Flash defeated the Texas Strikers 13-1 in both teams’ debut on November 17. RGV forward Alejandro Morales Montelongo opened the season with a hat trick.

Traditionally having a rough start in road openers, The Sidekicks improved to 7-13 in the first road game of the season with Sunday’s victory over RGV. Dallas had lost 6 straight road openers (1997 through 2003). The last time the Sidekicks earned a victory in their first game on the road was June 14, 1996. On that date, the Sidekicks defeated the Anaheim Splash 14-9.
After tonight, RGV will return to the Allen Event Center Thursday, Jan. 3.
Dallas will make a return trip to the Valley to face RGV of Sunday, Jan. 20.
Rio Grande Valley at Allen Event Center: This will be RGV’s first visit to the Allen Event Center.
Tatu vs Mariano Bollella: With Sunday’s win, Tatu improved to 1-0 against the RGV Flash.
Tonight’s Matchup: Sagu vs. Jose Bontti: Sagu is now 3-2 lifetime against RGV Flash goalkeeper Jose Bontti (1-0 in the PASL). Sunday’s Sidekicks victory was the first time Sagu and Bontti had faced each other with their current clubs, but they have faced each other before in the Major Indoor Soccer League. As a member of the Baltimore Blast, Sagu played 5 games against Jose Bontti (who played for La Raza de Monterrey), earning a 2-2 record with a 5.07 Goals Against Average in the 2009-10 season series.
No Time To Rest: Tonight marks the second of 3 games in 6 days for the Sidekicks, and the first game of a back-to-back. The Sidekicks will get no time to rest as they will travel to Beaumont to play the Texas Strikers on Saturday, December 1.
Where We Came From: The original Sidekicks were founded on January 9, 1984 when Dallas Mavericks owner Don Carter purchased the New Jersey Rockets franchise out of bankruptcy in the original Major Indoor Soccer League. Dallas played 19 seasons before folding on September 13, 2004. The Sidekicks were re-established on May 1, 2012 when Ronnie Davis purchased an expansion franchise in the Professional Arena Soccer League.
