WESTPORT, Connecticut – Sidekicks’ forward Shaun David was named to the MISL All-Rookie team. David joined forwards Adauto Neto of Cleveland and Jamar Beasley of Kansas City on the list of rookie honorees.
David, a product of West Mesquite High School, set the franchise rookie record with 15 goals, breaking the 13 tallies by Curtis Partain during the 1994 season. He was third in finding the net among rookies behind Beasley’s 31 and Neto’s 22.
David finished the year with 26 points on 15 goals and 11 assists. He had one hat trick this season, scoring three goals in a 9-3 victory over the San Diego Sockers at Reunion Arena November 1. He was just the third rookie in franchise history to do so, joining Guillermo Luvian from 1997 and Juan Sastoque from the 2000 season. David is the first forward in team history to make the league’s All-Rookie team. The other three rookies to earn first-team honors were goalkeeper Kyle Krpata in 1995, defender Jose Alvarado in 1997, and goalkeeper Jess Llamas in 2002-03.
David was one of ten newcomers that helped the Sidekicks improve to 21-15 from 9-27 a season ago. The Sidekicks won the Western Division championship and advance to the MISL semifinal, where they fell 6-1 at the Baltimore Blast.
